Support Christmas for homeless during a pandemic - COVID 19 Project

The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic is felt throughout society, not excluding the most disadvantaged. Institutions that normally aim to help the most vulnerable, experienced operational difficulties that compromise the delivery of food to people in vulnerable situations. On the other hand, there was a growing number of people taking to the streets. According to data collected from Cáritas Diocesana do Porto, the Porta Solidária Project, which was created in 2009 and supported an average of 150 people per day, during the pandemic, this number reached 400 meals a day in the space of 4 weeks.

As Christmas approached, Life and Peace Community (CVP), a non for profit organization that supports the homeless, decided to create a special Christmas for those in need, challenging its partner institutions to collaborate in the purpose of "bringing each homeless a gift so that they do not feel abandoned during the covid 19 pandemic”.

 This way, Spread was requested to provide operational and logistical support in this CVP initiative, and was responsible for helping to make these gifts even more special.

2. Solution implemented

Our solution included mobilizing 500 children to create a Christmas card that could be included with the gifts collected and distributed.

3. Who helped with the operationalization of this solution?

For this we looked for entities that operate at a national level and could ensure this initiative:

In this case was CNE (Scouts of Portugal) whose mission already mobilizes children from 6 years of age. They made themselves available to create Christmas postcards.

We also had donations of sleeping bags among others from Macro Camping to include in the gifts that would be distributed.

4. What do we want with this solution?

  • Creating an educational opportunity for children's awareness of their civil duties;

  • Enabling companies to participate in the CVP Cristmas;

  • Allow associations that already help people in fragile situations to continue fulfilling their mission during the pandemic.

5. What was the social impact achieved?

  • Over 450 postcards with messages used in the distributed gifts;

  • More than500 children mobilized and involved;

  • 39 locations participated;

  • Additional donations: 11 blankets and sleeping bags, a backpack, clothes and mugs.

Spread Prosperity its a non-profit organization where business efficiency professionals dedicate time and resources so that institutions on the front lines of fragility can have their processes designed to enable an even greater social and environmental impact.

If you believe in the importance of these type of interventions that bring efficiency to institutions, help us continue. Make a donation here.
