Tell us about your journey


Looking back, I started my Spread journey the moment I finished my Yazaki induction training in Hobara, Japan in 2006. I was put on a 5-year career progression plan just three days after my aptitude testing and recruitment process – completely based on my ability, speed of learning, problem-solving skills and ambition.


This made me realize how profitable organizations can structure their processes to be completely human centered. For example, in this company, no one with color blindness would ever be put in a position that would cause them to be unsuccessful or jeopardize the customer experience. They wouldn't be excluded from any position, but protected so that they be placed in roles that would allow them to be the best they could be.


While many organizations commit to being human centered (client satisfaction, employee happiness), in reality they fall short of this ideal. Too often in the corporate world there is a massive misalignment between wanting profitability and prosperity and really achieving them. This realization put me on a path to dedicating my professional career to supporting organizations with this quest. My goal was to help organizations close the gap between commitment and reality.


Then life happened. Suddenly I found myself being a mom of two and bombarded with questions around social inequality, skin color, poverty and social side effects. I realized I was not even scratching the surface trying to close the gap between profitability and prosperity in corporate settings.


That's when it hit me: how cool would it be if I could focus my years of investment in learning and work experience to focus on eradicating social issues instead of focusing on corporate profitability?


As an engineer, problem solving is pretty much my major. But what problems should I focus on solving and what tools should I use?


The tools I chose to use are those I learnt from various organizations, though the majority come from the Toyota toolkit.


The problems to solve soon became clear: I would find a profitable way of making a living out of solving social issues by closing the gaps between the efforts of government, the profitability of corporate entities and the social side effects that are preventing prosperity to all.


When I met Ben on a study mission in Japan, I realized there were others who shared my quest. Ben popped the question: couldn't we do more together? And here we are.

Final thoughts


Spread for me is a dream I have been nurturing for a while. I can continue to support the corporate world but go the extra mile by channeling knowledge and techniques acquired through the years to eradicate social issues.

We're on the way with our journey, but there is a long, long way to go.

I can't wait to see where this will lead!
